Attendance Policy

Attendance will be taken daily for all athletes. Girls attendance will be at 3:10 P.M. on the east end of the field in the stadium and boys on the west end. A whole team meeting will occur right after on the oval AL. All athletes should be present for attendance regardless of event participation.

You are expected to be at every practice unless you are excused by a coach. One, your coaches have worked hard to prepare workouts that build from each other. By skipping practices and workouts, you are being disrespectful of your hard-working coaches. Two, skipping practice lets down your teammates. Finally, we are responsible for you when you are supposed to be at track practice.

If you decide not to come and do not communicate why with a coach, we will assume you are no longer interested in running track. Furthermore, we ask that you agree to the following guidelines for attendance if you are participating in track:

  • Girls must give Coach Arra and Boys must give Coach Rocco sufficient notice if she or he is going to miss practice for a legitimate reason.
  • All excuses should be delivered prior to practice, not during or after.
  • You are expected to be at practice if you are in school. Deliver messages/excuses from practice in person or via email jeffrey.arra@avonlakecityschools.org or text through Remind if you are a female athlete. Boy athletes can email Coach Rocco at rob.rocco@avonlakecityschools.org or text through Remind.
  • Do not send a message/excuse via another member of the team.
  • You should also notify your head coach if you are going to be late.
  • Be dressed and ready for attendance at 3:10 P.M.
  • If you are injured, see the trainer before 3:10 P.M.
  • Unexcused absences from practices can disqualify you from competition.
  • Three unexcused absences from practice can result in your dismissal from the team.
  • If you are late to practice because of school-related reasons, you must provide a pass from the teacher you are seeing when you return to practice. Practice may be held rain/sleet/snow/shine/or indoors. The coaching staff will decide whether to modify or cancel practice at the track. Come prepared for all conditions every day!
  • If you are late to practice for an unexcused reason, you may be asked to go home.
  • If you are competing in private/club sports, communicate your schedule with Coach Arra or Coach Rocco as soon as possible to arrange modified practice times if needed.
  • Be prepared for all weather (including indoors) every day. Not having proper attire to be outside is not an excused absence.
  • If you choose to attend a school club's meeting after school, you are limited to only one day per week of late arrival to practice. You must leave the meeting by 3:50 P.M. and arrive at practice by 4 P.M. to begin your workout in front of your event coach.
  • Practice generally ends between 4:15 and 5:00 P.M. Please manage your transportation needs so you don’t need to wait long after practice to go home.
  • Lifting requirements are mandatory for attendance. Workouts in the weight room are tailored for individual’s events, experience, and ability. If you weight train at an alternative location, you should clear that with a coach.
  • If you will miss practice over spring break, you should communicate that with your coach when asked. Otherwise, mandatory practice will continue at variable times that week.
  • You must attend school for five consecutive periods to be eligible to participate in a meet. For Saturday meets, Friday’s school attendance must meet the 5 period requirement.
  • Athletes are required to assist running the home track meets.
  • You may not leave a track meet early unless you notify your head coach and your head coach. You may also not opt out of an event for which you are registered in a meet without notifying a coach.

Thank you for your attention to the attendance policy. On a team with 150 athletes, it is important that we are consistent and fair. Communication is the most important thing. If you have questions, please ask a head coach. Thank you!
